Meet Christy

Christy speaks to a Leadership Collier class at The Shelter for Abused Women & Children.

Christy Carpenter moved to Naples FL in 2002. She started telling her story in 2009 after attending a fundraiser for The Shelter for Abused Women & Children, where she had previously received services. At the fundraiser she was seated next to the Shelter CFO. The two exchanged pleasantries and Christy later wrote her a note of thanks, stating how bittersweet it had been to be sitting with the CFO of the organization that saved her life.

Two days later, she received a call from The Shelter CEO, who urged her to become more involved with The Shelter. Compelled to speak out for other survivors of abuse, Christy accepted the call to action. Slowly she began her journey of speaking, inspiring, and educating others on the crisis of domestic violence. In 2010, Christy was the keynote speaker at the same fundraiser she had attended just one year prior. For the past 13 years, she has shared her story at numerous speaking engagements for The Shelter, Leadership Collier, Greater Naples Leadership, the League Club of Naples, to name a few.

In her free time, Christy loves to hike and run with her husband Sean and their dog Tucker. Christy has two sons – Brendan, a graduate of Tufts University and Aidan, a student at Baldwin Wallace University.

It is Christy’s mission to share her story so that others experiencing the darkness of domestic violence can see that life can be full, healing can happen, and the power that has been taken from them is always there to reclaim.
